“The Illegals,” a motion picture depicting the underground Journey of displaced Jews in Europe to Palestine, will be premiered in New York on July 14, it was announced here today “by Meyer Levin, author and war correspondent, who produced the film.
The movie features the attempt of a Polish Jew and his pregnant wife to reach Palestine via the “Braycha” — Haganah underground — route. Practically all of filming was done at night in several European countries, Levin said. The most difficult part of the project was obtaining first-hand shots of visaless Jews boarding a Palestine-bound Haganah vessel In the dead of night off a south French beach.
