Motion picture theatre operators in this city, the capital of Arizona, have begun to scrap their policy of racial discrimination as the result of a campaign started by the local Anglo-Jewish newspaper, The Phoenix Jewish News.
Several weeks ago a group of Jewish women entertained a party of children from the county juvenile home and in the course of the day took them to a local movie. However, the management of the theatre refused to admit two of the children because they were Negroes.
The Jewish News published the story and it was subsequently reprinted by two metropolitan dailies. The publicity brought a reaction from the public and the theatre managers have begun to let down the color bar. Recently, the Phoenix school system dropped its policy of segregation.
