The Bernard M. Baruch College of the City University of New York–the only senior college in the city that had final examinations scheduled for Shavuot (May 19)–has agreed to move them to May 30 following “wide-spread protests” by individual students, the campus Hillel organizations, the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith and other groups. A meeting scheduled for yesterday afternoon between Jewish leaders on campus and president Clyde J. Wingfield was canceled when the college agreed to the change. “I think the (Jewish) students had a legitimate concern here,” the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was told by dean of faculties William Monat, who estimated they constituted 40 percent of the studentry. Makeup exams for students choosing not to attend May 19 were deemed “not satisfactory” to the protesters.
