Germany’s financial catastrophe today claimed its first direct victims when Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jaffe, long prominent in German society, killed themselves in a double suicide pact. While the Jaffes left no explanation of their act it is believed due to the fact that on their return from a summer resort they found their life savings wiped out by the closing of the great Darmstaedter und National Bank.
Mr. Jaffe was well known as a manufacturing chemist. The Jaffe home in the fashionable Tiergarten section of Berlin was a favorite meeting place for artists, business leaders, diplomats and politicians.
