The famous Hebrew poet, Dr. Saul Tschernichowsky, is now in Finland as the guest of the committee arranging the big national festival for the centenary of the publication of the national epos Kalevala, which Tschernichowsky translated into Hebrew.
Like all the other invited guests, he is the guest of the Finnish State, and the blue-white flag is displayed outside the hotel in Helsingfors, where they are staying among the other flags.
WELCOMED TO MANTERE
Tschernichowsky, together with the other official guests, has been received by Minister Mantere in the name of the Finnish government and by the representatives of Finnish literature and science. He has also been received by the Presidlum of the Jewish Communities of Helsingfors and Finland.
The Jewish Community has arranged a big reception in honor of Tschernichowsky; Dr. Pargament, the president of the Community, presided and said that the Jews of Finland were proud that their literature was represented by such a great Hebrew writer. Dr. Simon Federbusch, Chief Rabbi of Finland, welcomed Tschernichowsky as one of the founders of Hebrew literature and one of its greatest masters. He had been received in Finland not only as the representative of Hebrew literature, but of the Jewish people.
