Three New York firms, submitting to the terms of an arbitration award, have agreed to return $200,000 in furs bought in Leipzig and to contribute $5,000 each to a fund for German refugees, the Joint Boycott Council announced today.
The award was won by the council in cooperation with the Furriers’ Joint Council against the Art E. Weiss Co., N. Sobel, Inc., and Natt Weinstock, Inc., after hundreds of persons, including officers and executive board members of the boycott council, had picketed the firms.
The dealers said that although the furs had been bought in Leipzig, none of the money ever went to Germany, but was cabled from a London bank to Southwest Africa. They called the whole issue a “misunderstanding.”
