Judge Max J. Garmaise has been appointed as the first Jewish judge of the Quebec Social Welfare Court, a newly created judicial body. Judge Garmaise is active in the Jewish community of Rouyn, a suburb of Quebec, where he has participated in the Canadian Zionist Organization and the Canadian Jewish Congress.
