First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton told a group of rabbis that it is up to Israel and the Palestinian Authority to determine whether there should be a Palestinian state. Her comment at an off-the-record session with the North American Boards of Rabbis in Washington contrasted with her previous statements backing the creation of a Palestinian state. Clinton, who is contemplating a run for a New York senate seat next year, has already drawn fire from another possible contender, New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, for her earlier stance on Palestinian statehood.
