Groundbreaking ceremonies were held here today for the first YM-YWHA building in Jerusalem, to be built by the World Federation of YMHA’s and Jewish Community Centers. Taking part in the ceremonies were the participants in a conference on YM-YWHA and Jewish Community Center work, which opened here yesterday under the auspices of the World Federation in cooperation with the Paul Baerwald School of Social Work of the Hebrew University.
The Jerusalem YM-YWHA will be a two-story building located in the Katamon quarter of the city. A three-acre plot was made available by the Jerusalem Municipality. The first unit of the Jerusalem “Y”, which will cost an estimated $600,000, will contain a youth lounge, an assembly hall, a library, music room, snack bar, carpentry shop, photography laboratory, arts and crafts shop club rooms, a swimming pool and a gymnasium.
