The first public Zionist meeting since the liberation of France ended in an uproar today precipitated by the presence of 300 Arabs. police broke up the meeting by turning on the water sprinkler system, dousing both speakers and audience.
The Arabs, members of the Arab Students League, came to the meeting uninvited. Nevertheless their spokesman was permitted to take the floor. When a Zionist leader attempted a rebuttal of his charges that the Jews were trying to set up a Jewish Fascist regime, pointing out that the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem had been conferring with Hitler in Berlin, the Arabs began shouting and scuffles broke out all over the hall.
When the hall was cleared by the police action, the uproar continued outside, the Arabs distributing printed copies of their spokesman’s talk. The leaflets carried a statement saying they had been specially prepared for the meeting.
