The flag of the Jerusalem Municipality was raised by Mayor Theodore Kollek today over the former Municipality Building in Old Jerusalem which thus symbolically — if not yet officially — became once again part of Israel’s capital.
It appeared certain that former Mayor Mordecai Ish Shalom would be named by the Jerusalem Municipality as head of a committee to deal with the Old City’s services and reconstruction. Plans have already been submitted to Mayor Kollek by City Engineer Josef Steinberg to reconstruct the Jewish Quarter in the Old City.
