“Skyscraper cemeteries” featured some of the older European Jewish ghettos. Cramped for space, the Jews in Frankfurt-am-Main, Venice and other cities, until two hundred years ago, buried their dead in tiers. Some cemeteries rose as high as four-story buildings.
