France’s prime minister warned French youth not to forget that France deported Jews during the Holocaust.
“Once the voice of those who lived this tragedy is gone, it will be up to you, the young people of France, to take up their words, their memories,†Francois Fillon said on an occasion marking the 65th anniversary of one of the largest roundups of Jews during the war. “You will do it for them, you will do it for France.â€
In all, about 75,000 Jews were deported from France to Nazi concentration camps during World War II. Fewer than 3,000 survived.
