Former Premier Edouard Herriot warned the Radical Socialist Party Congress yesterday that the French Republic would go the way of Austria, Czechoslovakia, Spain and China unless it firmly defended democratic liberties of the press, speech and religion. “Do you not remember the fate of the Austrian republic, the Czechoslovak republic, the Spanish Republic, the Chinese Republic,” he asked. “How many examples do you require to make you think?
