The financial crisis in Latvian Jewish education was caused by the withdrawal simultaneously of subsidies by the Latvian government and the municipality of Riga.
The Jewish elementary school, maintained by the Riga municipality, was closed today and the pupils transferred to other schools. This was done because it was alleged that pupils were carrying on propaganda against compulsory religious education.
