West German Ambassador Heinrich Knappstein promised yesterday to transmit to Bonn a request by the Jewish Nazi Victims Organization of America for improved procedures in processing medical claims of victims, according to the group’s president, Moses Socachevsky, who called at the German Embassy here with a delegation.
The Ambassador was asked to convey a request that victims of Nazism be permitted their own physicians to participate in settlement of injury-to-health claims. Request was made for assignment of West German medical personnel to the consulate in New York, to make final decisions on claims. Measures were discussed for faster reimbursement for medicine and for doctors’ bills paid out of pocket by concentration camp survivors.
A protest was made by the delegation against the use of an objectionable phrase by German physicians in considering Jewish claims. The phrase is a notation on records that “this sickness is peculiar to the Jewish race.”
