The last of the mass trials of German concentration camp officials and guards in the U.S. zone of Germany was completed here today with the sentencing of one man to death, 14 other defendants to prison terms ranging from five years to life imprisenment and the acquittal of four others.
Hans Moeser, former commandant of the Nordhausen camp, received the death sentence. He was convicted of responsibility in the systematic beating and starving to death of Jewish and other camp prisoners employed in manufacturing the “V-Bomb.”
Members of the presecution staff and even some Americans assigned to assist the defense have expressed surprise that the sentences were so light. One remarked: “There is no defense like time.”
