A local court in this Ruhr town, in the British zone, today sentenced four Germans to prison terms varying from one year, three months, to two years on charges of having participated in the burning of the local synagogue during the night of November 9, 1938, following the assassination of a Nazi diplomat in Paris by a Jewish youth. A fifth defendant was acquitted.
In passing sentence, the presiding judge stated that the prison terms were very light and had been made so because the defendants had been punished previously for the same crime by a denszification court. The judge also condemned the four in sharp language.
