Dr. Hans Riesser, West German Consul-General in New York, has been granted the personal rank of Ambassador in his capacity as observer of the Federal Republic at the United Nations.

Dr. Riesser, who is expected to be retired early next year, was removed from the German diplomatic service during the Hitler regime because, although not himself of the Jewish faith, he is a descendant of the famed pioneer of Jewish emancipation in Germany-Hamburg attorney Gabriel Riesser.
