German police warned of worse May Day violence than usual in Berlin after a court upheld a decision to ban a left-wing demonstration, but ruled that a march by an extreme right-wing party could go ahead. Berlin city authorities had banned both leftist and far-right marches in an attempt to prevent the annual round of street battles between the groups and the police.
