Edgar Fernau, a schoolteacher who received a four-month suspended sentence for making public anti-Semitic statements and defending the Nazi treatment of Jews, has been expelled from the school system, the Lower Saxony Board of Education announced. An investigation is now under way to determine whether Fernau is entitled to all or only part of his pension rights.
The provincial authorities of Hesse province have taken a hand in a recent spate of anti-Semitic incidents aimed at an innkeeper and his wife in the town of Floersheim. Only the wife is Jewish.
When the Mayor of Floersheim reported to Hesse Interior Minister H. Schneider that the whole affair was merely “drunken vandalism,” he was told that no matter how insignificant in appearance, any incident of anti-Semitism would be handled by the Hesse government with strength and decision. The provincial prosecutor has been ordered to investigate.
