Germany’s chancellor discussed the country’s shame and historical burden at an event marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Speaking Tuesday to an audience that included many survivors, Gerhard Schroeder spoke of “shame before those who were murdered — and to you, who survived the hell of the concentration camps.”
