Alexander Has-san, a Washington civil engineer and builder who was born in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia of Russian immigrants, and his wife, Sylvia, have underwritten the cost of three projects in Israel, the Jewish National Fund of Washington has disclosed. Their dollar cost was not revealed.
The announcement came at the “appreciation dinner” given Sunday by the Washington JNF for Israeli Ambassador Yitzhak Rabin and his wife, Leah. More than 1000 persons, contributing about $250,000 to the JNF, attended the black tie affair at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Bernard Rosenberg, Washington JNF president, said it was the largest and financially most successful gathering in the local organization’s history.
Rosenberg said the Hassans are paying for the construction of a six-kilometer road which will link the highway skirting Israel’s north central border with a planned forest of approximately 100,000 pine trees which the Washington JNF group will plant and name in honor of Ambassador and Mrs. Rabin. The Hassans will also meet the costs of a technical high school for training mechanics at the Kfar Silver Agricultural School near Ashkelon and an engineering structure for the Technion in Haifa.
