Prof. Moise Gitterman, an expert in solid state physics, arrived here last night from the Soviet Union. He was one of six Jewish scientists who staged a hunger strike in Moscow to protest the denial of exit visas. Prof. Gitterman was accompanied by his wife, daughter, mother and aunt. The 42-year-old scientist said that the Jewish activists are very excited over the Jackson Amendment. They believe that adoption of the amendment would exert pressure on the Russian authorities to permit Jews to emigrate. He was not sure, however, the amendment would solve the problems of Russian Jewry in general. Prof. Gitterman has a post in the Tel Aviv University physics department.
