In accepting the invitation to sing at the Carnegie Hall concert on April 22, under the auspices of the Non – Sectarian Anti – Nazi League to Champion Human Rights.” Mme. Ernestine Schumann-Heink declared:

“I love the German people almost as much as the American, but this present German government I do not care for, and I am only too glad to do my bit against Hitlerism.”
