A general meeting of members of the striking Knit Goods Workers Union, branch of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, will be held soon to consider the proposals submitted by Ben Golden, executive secretary of the Regional Labor Board. The employers of the industry have already agreed to settle the strike, now in its second week, if the union abides by the proposals.
The suggestions embody plans whereby both sides will appoint one arbitrator each to settle all problems that may come up. They also provide for a thirty-six hour a week for the first year with a thirty-five hour week thereafter.
The original union demands were a reduction in hours from thirty-seven and a half to thirty-five weekly and ten to twenty per cent increase in wages, according to the classification of the workers.
