The measures taken by the Roumanian authorities in Clausenburg, Transylvania, following an attempt made by anti-Semitic students to provode riots, proved effective. No further disturbances occurred today.

Notwithstanding this, Chief of Police Berleanu increased the police guard in the vicinity of the University. Simultaneously Police Prefect Hatieganu in cooperation with the University authorities arranged for guarding the campus without violation of the institution’s autonomous administration.

The Liberal press today commended the action of the Bucharest authorities who suspended the chief of the political police, the Siguranza, at Belz in a telegraphic order. The action against the chief of the Siguranza was ordered because of his arresting, without any grounds, the Yiddish poet, Isaac Manger of Jassy, who came to Belz for the purpose of giving a public lecture several days ago. When taken to police headquarters Mr. Manger was severely beaten. At the order of the Bucharest authorities Manger was released and escorted on his way back to Jassy. This is the beginning of an action to “civilize” the police, the newspapers comment.
