The strike of local govemment employes continued throughout the country today, for he second day, apart from those of Herzlia north of Tel Aviv. Municipal council workers there went back to work today, following an annuouncement by Mayor Eli Landau that he was incrreasiong the wages of lower-paid workers “from the normal sources.” The Finance Ministry responeded by saying that Ladndau’s step was illegal and a “flagrant breach of the local government law” which gives mayors and village council chairmen little leeway on how they can dispense funds covered by national agreements.
