His secretary’s plea that he aid the more than 200 Jewish families left homeless by rainstorm which washed away their homes in the Jewish quarter of Salonica early this week has led the Governor of Macedonia to vote 7,000 drachmas for relief of the distressed.

The secretary, Iliades, visited the district and was so impressed by the misery of the homeless families that he proposed to the governor that the money be voted and the governor complied.

Those whose homes were washed away are living in army barracks and aid is being administered to them through a fund of 10,000 drachmas provided by Premier Tsaldaris.
