The correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency here learns that the Grand Mufti of Palestine applied for a visa to Syria the day before the riots occurred in Jerusalem. The application of the Mufti was refused by the French Consulate here owing, probably to the Mufti’s participation in inciting Syrian Moslems against the French.
The object of the Mufti’s frustrated mission to Syria, it is believed, was either to organize the demonstrations which occurred in Damascus and were suppressed by the French, or to establish an alibi during the disorders.
