The Government of Greece extended de facto recognition today to the state of Israel. Greece is the 47th country to recognize the Jewish state.

Panavoti Pipinellis, permanent Under-Secretary of the Greek Foreign Office, announced that his government had instructed the Greek consul at Tel Aviv to inform the Israeli Government of the extension of recognition.

(In Tel Aviv no official confirmation of the Greek announcement of the granting of recognition to Israel was available.)
