The Haifa Institute of Technology announced plans today for a five-year, $50,000,000 development plan to enlarge its undergraduate capacity to 5,000 students. Most of the money is to be raised by overseas friends of the Technion. The Israel Government has pledged to provide 25 percent of the total cost, according to Alexander Goldberg, Technion president.
Mr. Goldberg joined with vice-president David Ginsburg, who drew up the expansion plan, to report to a press conference on the Technion school year which opened today. The officials reported that of 1,440 candidates for admission, 520 had been enrolled. Dr. Goldberg also reported that the Technion was trying to recruit top-flight instructors in the United States to cope with the Technion teacher problem.
