Harry Schneiderman, for nearly a half-century a writer, editor and Jewish organization executive, was honored today on his 70th birthday by more than 150 civic, educational and religious leaders at a luncheon in the Hotel Delmonico.
Now chairman of the editorial board of “Who’s Who in World Jewry,” Mr. Schneiderman was formerly editor of the American Jewish Year Book and an executive of the American Jewish Committee for 40 years, retiring as assistant secretary in 1948. He is author of “The Jews in American History,” “Jews in Nazi Germany,” and “Jewish Americans.”
James Marshall, former president of the New York City Board of Education, reviewed Mr. Schneiderman’s career, calling him “an outstanding example of devoted and unselfish service in the annals of contemporary Jewish life.” Others who paid personal tribute to the guest of honor were Dr. Salo W. Baron. Professor of Jewish History, Columbia University; Morris Fine, editor of the American Jewish Year Book; and David Bernstein, executive secretary of the American Jewish Tercentenary.
