The Italian Embassy has no information of a change in Rome’s Jewish policy, it was officially stated here today in connection with yesterday’s article in Popolo D’Italia, Premier Mussolini’s Milan newspaper, in which Italian Jews were bidden to embrace Fascism, renounce “international Hebrewism” and Zionism or leave Italy.
An Embassy spokesman told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency the article in Popolo D’Italia, by Oreste Gregario, appeared to be an expression of the writer’s views.
The spokesman recalled Premier Mussolini’s recent expression of friendship to the Jews. (In a speech at Libya recently, Premier Mussolini was reported to have said Jews there could count on his continued protection.)
