The Hebrew Language Committee has recommended that the new Palestine currency be known in Hebrew by the following names: 1 Mil (1000th. of £) Perutah; 5 Mils- Ma’ah; 10 Mils-Ma’ata-im (dual); 50 Mils-Hezi (half) Shekel; 100 Mils-Shekel; 500 Mils-Hezi (half) Litra (Pound); 1,000 Mils-Litra.

These names will facilitate reference to the new coins and also obviate their being called by the Egyptian equivalents (Piastre for 10 Mils. for example).
