The high standards of the Hebrew University and its service in bettering racial relations as well as the University’s contributions to the British forces in the field of nutrition, immunization against tropical diseases, and conversion of citrus products into munitions, were hailed by speakers at a dinner last night at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York, given by the New York Council of the Hebrew University.
Subscriptions to the dinner will provide for the maintenance of refugee students, scholars and research workers at the Jerusalem university which since the outbreak of the war, has placed on its staff 52 exiled European professors and over 800 refugee students. Speakers included Judge Irving Lehman, James G. McDonald, former League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and Zalman Schocken, chairman of the executive council of the Hebrew University.
