The Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem will for the first time in its five-year existence accept American medical students for enrollment in its fall semester, it was announced today by Mrs. Samuel J. Rosensohn, national president of Hadassah.
Together with the American Friends of the Hebrew University, Hadassah raises funds in this country for the maintenance and expansion of the only medical college in Israel. The medical school will be an integral part of the $10,000,000 Medical Center which Hadassah is establishing in Israel.
Mrs. Rosensohn reported that the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical Advisory Board will have the task of screening American candidates for the Israel Medical School. She added that the new policy provides that henceforth up to ten percent of the total Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School enrollment may be Americans.
American candidates for admission to the Israel Medical School must possess “precisely the same” academic qualifications required by recognized American medical schools, she said. In addition, candidates must possess those qualities of personality and character which will enable them to adapt themselves to life in Israel.
Candidates interested in applying for admission to the Israel medical school should contact in writing the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical Advisory Board at Hadassah headquarters in New York. For students residing outside of New York City, the Medical Advisory Board will hold special screening interviews in Boston, Baltimore-Washington, Atlanta, New Orleans, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
