Cries of “Heil, Hitler !” and “Shame, shame !” rang through the Congress hall when a motion by Meier Grossman, Jewish State Party leader, for open discussion of the Palestine-German transfer agreement was voted down by a large majority.
Grossman offered his motion after reading an interpellation about the reported arrest in Palestine yesterday of persons picketing a building storing goods imported from Germany under the transfer pact.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann replied for the praesidium that the entire question would be considered by a special congress committee headed by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise.
