Israeli Herut leader Menahem Beigin and French deputy Jacques Soustelle called for a full and permanent alliance between Israel and France at a Zionist meeting here today.

Both speakers declared that Israel and France would each gain from such an association which would “stem Arab imperialism” in the Middle East region. Soustelle. who referred to Israel as an “island of civilization and culture in a sea of Arab barbarism and ignorance,” asserted that many Arabs wanted peace and a Franco-Israeli alliance would enable those men of wood will to come into the open and influence the trend of their countries”
