A mass meeting in a theatre here marked the joint celebration tonight of Israel’s 12th anniversary and the Herzl Centenary. Israel Ambassador Eliabu Sasson, guest speaker at the meeting, highlighted the meaning of Herzl’s ideals in the light of Israel’s present reality.
Other speakers included Rome Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff; Sergio Piperno, president of the United Jewish Community and Carlo Viterbo, president of the Italian Zionist Federation. Documentary films on Israel and on the life of Herzl were shown to the gathering.
