High officials of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration predicted “serious disturbances” among about 25,000 displaced persons under their care in Italy, unless immediate steps, so far undetermined, were taken to guarantee that these people would be maintained adequately after UNRRA closes operations June 30.

Of these 25,000, there are 13,500 in camps, 5,000 in the towns and 7,000 in (##)chaharah installations, for all of which UNRRA is responsible. The overwhelming majurity of these are refugee Jews from Europe. Acutely aware that UNRRA is to cease, these people are exhibiting growing signs of uneasy restlessness in the face of the apparent lack of any other apparatus to replace it. Although two months remain until UNRRA goes out of existence, officials of the organization have stated that the fears of these refugees are manifestly justified, since there is no organization as yet prepared to undertake the administration of the DP camps here.
