Six thousand Jewish students will renew their Jewish activities with the reopening of eight B’nai B’rith Hillel foundations and the formal establishment of a ninth on university campuses from New York to California.
Foundations that have just reopened are those at Illinois, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Cornell, Texas, Northwestern and California. At the University of Alabama, B’nai B’rith’s new foundation has opened for the first time with Rabbi Samuel Cook as director.
NORTHWESTERN ON FULL TIME
The foundation at Northwestern University, which last year operated on a volunteer basis, is now established on a full time schedule, with Rabbi Martin Weitz as director.
All nine of the foundations are under the general direction of Dr. A. L. Sachar, national director, who at the same time is active director of the parent foundation at the University of Illinois.
ORATORY A FEATURE
Religious services, dramatics, debate and oratory, forums, social service work, classroom studies, and social recreational affairs feature the programs of all foundations.
Most of the activities, including the regular courses in Jewish history, ethics, and religion, are open to non-Jews as well as to Jewish students.
