Pinhas Lavon, secretary-general of Histadrut, the Israel Federation of Labor, today lodged a complaint with Prime Minister David Ben Gurion against Chief Rabbi Itzhak Nissim, whom he charged with “insulting” the Histadrut’s chief chaplain, Rabbi Brandwein. Both rabbis reverently attended the dedication of a new synagogue at Eilat. According to Mr. Lavon, Rabbi Nissim walked out when Rabbi Brandwein took the podium to deliver an official greeting.
