This city heard Hitlerism attacked by Dr. S. Parkes Cadman of Brooklyn, well known radio preacher and former president of the Churches of Christ of America, and Dr. Harry L. Franklin, former American consul in Berlin for twelve years.

Speaking to 400 women in the Town Hall series of lectures, Dr. Cadman bitterly assailed the German church established by Hitler.

“That kind of religion can never survive,” he said. “The German church claims that only pure ‘Aryans’ can worship. That is absurd. We’re all mongrels. There is no pure race.”

Dr. Cadman paid tribute to the 8,000 churchmen fighting Hitler’s church regime and characterized the Hitler religion as “only a series of ideas by subterfuge.”

CALLED POLITICAL RACKET

Speaking under the auspices of the League for the Defense of Human Rights Against Nazism, Dr. Franklin said that Nazism is perhaps the greatest political racket in history, but that it is on the verge of collapse now.

“Hitler’s movement in Germany was based on fraud. misrepresentation and mendacity,” charged Dr. Franklin. “I was in Germany as recently as last January and saw how terrorism overpowered a nation of high civilization and culture.

“The 4,200,000 people who dared to oppose the government in the last plebiscite should be admired. They actually risked their lives to defy the scourge of Nazism.”

Dr. Franklin also addressed gatherings at Lakewood High School and the First Methodist Church. In his address at the high school, he charged that hundreds had been held in concentration camps without trial since early in 1933. Personal rights, including that of habeas corpus, have been abolished, he said.
