A European war is not imminent as a result of Chancellor Dollfuss’ murder in Austria, responsibility for which he placed indirectly on Hitler, Willi Muenzenberg, former Reichstag deputy and leading member of the World Committee to Aid Victims of German Fascism, declared in a press conference here yesterday.
“It is possible that Hitler did not have advance knowledge of the coup d’ etat against Dollfuss,” he asserted, “but undoubtedly the plot was instigated by his foreign minister, Dr. Alfred Rosenberg; certainly it was not a brainchild of the Austrian Nazis.
“However, whether or not Hitler was informed of it, today in the eyes of the world he stands responsible for the ill-fated deed, since he is the head of the Nazi party.”
