The refusal of former Judge Harry Hoffheimer to accept an appointment by President Harding to the Federal bench has aroused much comment here. Hoffheimer recently visited Washington to intervene for a friend, and he declares, that his acceptance of the appointment might lead to the impression that while in Washington he secretly worked for himself.
The President tried unsuccessfully to obtain Hoffheimer’s acceptance. Hoffheimer was one of the original Harding men at the time when the county’s Republican organization was almost unanimously committed to the candidacy of General Wood.
