Israeli army and police commanders were visibly relieved today after two days of national celebrations–Memorial Day and Yom Haatzmaut–passed unmarred by any incidents affecting security. There was more than the usual quota of traffic accidents and traffic jams however, as thousands of Israelis took to the roads and highways to celebrate their country’s 27th anniversary. But no lives were lost and the traffic bottlenecks were unravelled eventually through the exercise of patience.
