Chairman L. Mendel Rivers, of the House Armed Services Committee, today indicated to members of the committee that he favored affirmative action on a pending bill, authorizing the loan of a modern American destroyer to Israel to replace the Elath. The Israeli destroyer was sunk by the Egyptians last month. Rep. Rivers, South Carolina Democrat, made known that early action might be anticipated on the ship loan to Israel.
