Details of the shooting and killing of Feiwel Blankenstein, aged 68, are contained in reports from Zovichest near Lublin, where the tragedy occurred. Blankenstein went to the post office to buy stamps, stopping for a chat with Wolchinski, a district official. Standing nearby was Stanislav Koborski, the postmaster’s brother-in-law, who told the postmaster’s thirteen-year-old boy to bring a bullet with which “to shoot the old Jew.” The boy obeyed and Koborski, moving to a window a few paces away, fired the gun, instantly killing the old man. Blankenstein left a widow and six children. The murderer has been arrested.
