Thanksgiving day proved a fitting date for the simple but impressive ceremonies marking the laying of the cornerstone of the new temple being erected in West Hartford for Temple Beth Israel, now in its ninetieth year of existence. Rabbi Abraham J. Feldman, spiritual leader of the congregation; Rabbi Isaac S. Hurwitz, senior orthodox rabbi of Connecticut; Rabbi Morris Silverman of Emanuel Synagogue; the Rev. William T. Hooper, rector of the neighboring St. John’s Episcopal church, and the Rev. Dr. Robbins W. Barstow, president of the Hartford Seminary Foundation, participated in the program.
Simon Kashman, only living exp-resident, and Maurice Hartman, vice-president, deposited the articles in the metal box. President Isidore Wise, who has held this position for the last twenty-seven years, then placed the cornerstone. Judge Solomon Elsner gave a brief address.
